    Saksena_Tanmay_2Hello Aspirants

Let me start with an inspiring quote:

“So many of our dreams at first seem impossible, then they seem improbable, and then when we summon the will, they soon become inevitable.” – Christopher Reeve, also famous for playing SUPERMAN

I had originally planned to talk about GMAT but since Round 1 deadlines for many US Business Schools are very close I thought of giving some quick pointers on “Essay Writing”. Saksena_Tanmay_2Hello aspiring MBA students and world changers!

Does getting an MBA from US and changing the world go hand in hand? As aspiring MBA students and       future business leaders you are soon going to be exposed to the most potent answer in your arsenal of responses: “It depends!” And in the real world, it truly does. All business school aspirants have to write atleast three essays as part of the application process. Most of the aspirants go through multiple review cycles before they finalize their essays. Following these simple steps you can do it more efficiently:

    Step 1
Research the business school. Your essay should highlight the qualities which business school values. So if the school values team skills, give examples from your past life which highlight you as strong team player

    Step 2
Base your essays only on facts. A common mistake which most of the aspirants make is that they start writing about what they can do. The person who evaluates your application is more interested in knowing what you have already done rather than what all you can do.

    Step 3
Use figures to substantiate your achievements. Saying that ‘I increased the efficiency of the organization’ is less impactful than saying ‘My efforts led to decrease in operational costs by 50% and increase of productivity by 10%’. So use numbers.

    Step 4
Check for grammatical errors. Such errors reflect very poorly on you. You can use word’s spell checker to see if there are any spelling errors. Get your essays reviewed by others to catch any grammatical errors. Read the rest of this entry »
