  • Outlook has published a list of 75 top engineering colleges in India. List of top engineering colleges was made by judging the engineering colleges on four parameters – quality of teaching, selection process, placements, infrastructure. Recruiters were asked to rate engineering colleges on these four parameters to arrive at top engineering colleges. This is where subjective judgement comes into play. We think that if Outlook did this exercise again with the same set of recruiters it will come up with different rankings of top engineering colleges. So in our opinion this ranking of top engineering colleges, and all other rankings, should be only used as a rough guide for selecting the best engineering college for admission.

  • A large chunk of engineering freshers end up taking jobs in IT sector. Their dream jobs are with companies like Infosys, TCS, HCL, Tech Mahindra and the likes. However, not many of these freshers know what is expected from them in the interviews. Here it is:

    Step 1:

Do not be nervous. The interviewers are there just to judge your suitability for the opening which they have. If they find you to be a good fit, you are selected. On the other hand if you are not selected it does not mean that you are not a good student or smart enough, it is just that you and the job requirements do not match. It is that simple.

    Step 2:

Read about the company. Interviewers like it when you speak something intelligent about the company which they do not expect to hear from a fresh engineer. Example of such intelligent things can be – Infosys stock went from 1330 to 1500 when its results were declared this quarter OR Infosys recently won British Telecom as a customer. It is up to you how you fit whatever you know about the company into your answer. Read the rest of this entry »
