It often happens to me that I am trying to book a tatkal ticket but end up with frustration rather than the ticket. Supposedly an army of agents start booking all tatkal tickets as soon as reservation opens at 8 am. To tackle the problem of agents booking up all the tatkal train tickets, IRCTC has introduced a new set of guidelines. Hopefully, with these new rules in place I can get a tatkal ticket.

The guidelines are as follows
1. Tatkal tickets can now be booked one day in advance excluding the day of travel. Earlier tatkal ticket booking could be done 3 days in advance.
2. For internet booking you need to enter details of your identify proof. If you are booking the ticket on the counter you will need to give a self attested copy of your identify proof. Also, you need to carry the same identify proof during the travel.
3. A maximum of four passenger can be booked on one tatkal ticket.
4. No duplicate tatkal ticket will be issued; this is applicable for tickets booked on counter. You are of course free to take as many prinouts as you want of your e-ticket
5. On cancellation of a confirmed tatkal ticket no money shall be refunded. This rule is the same as before.
