• Picture of your e-ticket is a valid rail ticket

IRCTC has recently made a lot of changes in rules regarding online booking of tickets. Most of these changes are around tatkal ticket booking, however, one interesting change is that you don’t need to carry printout of your e-tickets. You can now show a picture of your ticket on your mobile or laptop and it will be accepted as a valid proof. You also need to have a valid Id proof along with the screen-shot of your ticket. The acceptable Id proofs are the ones as earlier.

Offers Currently Live on Flight Bookings

As per IRCTC’s website there are around 3 lac railway tickets being booked daily. If instead of printing the e-tickets people start taking screen-shots of their e-tickets it will definitely help save a lot of paper and thus trees. But I doubt if anybody will really carry his/her laptop just for the purpose of showing the screen shot of the ticket.

Will you click the picture of your ticket on your mobile and take it along instead of the paper ticket?

It will feel funny to take the photo of your computer with your phone to get the pic of the ticket in your phone.
Why don’t they make the sms as the ticket?

@Amit: Currently IRCTC only sends the PNR number and train number on SMS. It does not have name of passengers etc. I think it will be difficult to get all that to fit in 140 characters of the sms.

Why is there any limit to send more than 140 char in sms?

@vihaan: actually the limit is 160 char. 140 is a typo.
