Is top MBA degree from Ivy league college required to be successful in your career? A study by Wall Street Journal seems to support that you can be successful even if you do not have a top MBA degree. Here is the excerpt:“Most CEOs of the biggest corporations didn’t attend Ivy League or other highly selective colleges. They went to state universities, big and small, or to less-known private colleges….
Some 10% of CEOs currently heading the top 500 companies received undergraduate degrees from Ivy League colleges, …”
Top MBA degree from an Ivy league college alone cannot make you a CEO. It depends largely on personal attributes. Top MBA degree can teach you leadership traits but becoming a leader depends on you. Top MBA degree can give you access to alumni but connecting to them depends on you.
Here is a list of few people who do not have top MBA degrees yet have had glorious careers
- Bill Gates, Microsoft Founder – College drop out
- Steve Jobs, Co-founder and CEO Apple, – College drop out
- H. Lee Scott, Wal-Mart Stores CEO – Pittsburg State University
- Paul Otellini, Intel CEO – University of San Francisco
- James Sinegal, Costco Wholesale CEO – San Diego City College
- Warren Buffett, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway – University of Nebraska-Lincoln
Depending on what you do in college you can end up in a regular desk job even after graduating with a top MBA degree or you can be a CEO after graduating from a normal college without a top MBA degree. It all depends on YOU
