Getting a fresher job seems to be a very difficult task, but a well written resume can help you get that fresher job quite easily. Resume is a vital document which establishes your suitability for fresher job. It is the first thing which a potential employer notices about you when considering you for a fresher job. Hence the resume should convey your suitability for the fresher job in the most efficient manner.

    Step 1:
Understand the job requirements. You will want to give your resume a different flavor depending on the type of fresher job that you are targeting. For example, if you are a fresh mechanical engineer applying for an IT fresher job, you should highlight your analytical skills, computer skills to get IT fresher job. You can also talk about the programming languages that you know, quizzes that you participated in etc. If you are applying for a fresher job in mechanical engineering domain you should talk about projects you did as part of your syllabus, internships you did (if it is related to mechanical engineering) to increase your chances of getting mechanical engineering fresher job.

    Step 2:
Highlight your qualities as team player. All fresher jobs require you to be a team player. You should not forget to highlight your skills of being a team player when applying for a fresher job. Ways of doing this can be – show that you are interested in team sports like cricket, football, trekking. Give specific examples of when you won or lost as a team.

    Step 3:
Be precise. On an average an employer spends less than a minute going through a resume for a fresher job. So you should not go on and on about your achievements in your resume. Rather be precise and convey the idea fast. Emphasis should be on writing 4-5 major achievements in crisp sentences when applying for a fresher job

    Step 4:
Action verb. When applying for fresher job each sentence in your resume should start with an action verb like ‘Achieved’, ‘Accomplished’, ‘Won’ etc. It is more impactful to the reader and associates your directly with whatever you are trying to explain. Example, Won an interschool debate competition in Class 11th competing against more than 100 students from 15 schools. Action verbs in resume increase your chances of grabbing that fresher job.

    Step 5:
Facts and figures increase chances of grabbing a fresher job. Include facts and figures in all your statements in resume when applying for fresher job. It makes them look more real and believable. See example in step 4 – ‘100 students’, ‘15 schools’ these make the statement look very believable.

    Step 6:
Do NOT lie. You should not cook up facts, stories or any other information when applying for fresher job. Employers are way too smart and can figure out false claims in the very first glance.

    Step 7:
Avoid non relevant information when applying for fresher job. Stating that you ‘stood first in a debate competition in class 3’ or that ‘you won a rangoli competition in class 5’ makes your resume look childish. So only include achievements from class 10th onwards.
